Here I demonstrate how to simulate clock, data, and chip select lines to control the AD9850 DDS (radio frequency synthesizer). Oh dear! Can't be helped. Learned a lot last night! SPI mode is now available in oled-js. Will publish soon when docs are updated. It's not going to be overly useful however. SPI transfer requires a lot of pin flipping. Each pin flip is sent separately over USB serial to the Arduino. Each byte sent to the screen requires 3 pin flips. Each bit within the byte requires 3 pin flips. That's 3 + 8 * 3 = 27 pin flips per byte. One byte contains 8 pixels to be written to the screen - brutal! Basically nothing I can do about it either, I've taken out every un-necessary flip I could. Was still fun to write though, I now understand SPI theory really well :)

This is an introduction to hardware security for beginners. I will show you how to connect to the Linux terminal of a TP-Link wireless router using UART, and also how to dump its firmware using a SPI programmer. My aim has been to use the most affordable and accessible tools, so everyone can start without breaking the bank. Furthermore, three different Serial Communication Protocols were introduced, namely SPI, I2C, and UART. The structures and data frames of these Serial Communication Protocols were explained. Furthermore, the differences were discussed between decoding protocols on the analog channels of an oscilloscope, a logic probe with a logic analyzer on the oscilloscope, and a logic probe with a logic analyzer on a computer. Lastly, some test signals from an STB Signal test board were decoded on a Siglent SDS1104X-E with serial protocol decoders. My 'Bricked' Lenovo W540 laptop would not get past the Lenovo Flash screen. It would not enter the BIOS, or recovery or alternate Boot Device although they could be selected with F1, F10, F12 (system would just hang indefinitely at that point). I disassembled the Laptop, read in the BIOS information from the eeprom chip(s) on the motherboard, using the EZP-2019. I downloaded a new BIOS from Lenovo Support and using the UEFItool, a BIOS editor, from GitHub, I updated my old BIOS files with new BIOS information. I then reprogrammed the eeprom's with the new BIOS info and reassembled the Laptop - Success. Laptop boots and I have access again to the BIOS and can boot into the OS. Note: When working on my mother board, the blue background in the pictures is a grounded anti-static mat. Although not a necessity, it is a preferred caution when working with electronics. Note: It would be wise to make backups of the 'bin' files that you read before editing, in case you make a mistake while editing, you will still have the original contents of the BIOS files. Note: When rebooting, the first time after this procedure, it may/should take much longer for the boot sequence to get you to the BIOS page then normal - this is to be expected as your BIOS loader needs to configure the new information before actually presenting the BIOS page. Note: If you 'downgrade' your BIOS to an earlier version (say if yours was corrupt and you got a BIOS ROM file online), you are likely to encounter problems when you get up and running (crashes or the BSOD) in your operating system (OS). You should download and update your BIOS in the OS ASAP. If you would rather use an earlier BIOS, you will probably have to reinstall your OS from scratch as it's setup for a later BIOS version and is no longer compatible with the earlier version. Note: The 'grounding/soldering' of pin 4 (5:08 and on) to ground applies to 24 & 25 series chips only. 93 series chips (can) have a different ground pin (pin 5 ?) so if you are using your programmer for those chips, don't solder your pin 4 to ground.
